Why Restore + a weekly soak is my
favourite spring routine (especially by the coast)
By Tracy McCarthy | Naturally Balanced, Kinsale
April in Ireland is never just “spring” — it’s spring with a few moods.
You’ll get a bright morning that feels like a fresh start… then a sharp breeze on the school run, a bit of rain off the Atlantic, the car heater back on, and suddenly your skin is tight again. That’s usually the moment people think they need more products.
I’ve learned (from my own skin, and from years working hands-on with clients) that April skin doesn’t want more.
It wants comfort. consistency. less friction.
So this is my April approach — the one I come back to every year:
- Restore daily (simple, steady, barrier-friendly)
- One soak a week (soften the skin + soften the pace)
- Minimal steps so you’ll actually stick with it
Why your skin can feel “off” in April
In April, your skin is dealing with change — not just the weather, but the way you live.
- Wind + salty air (especially around Kinsale and the coast)
- Temperature swings (cold mornings, milder afternoons)
- Winter habits still lingering (hot showers, indoor heat)
- More time outdoors again
That mix often shows up as:
- tightness after cleansing
- dry patches that won’t shift
- sensitivity or “stingy” skin
- dullness that doesn’t feel like you
This is usually a skin barrier moment — and the answer is almost always: simplify and support.

My April routine
I keep it easy. I don’t want a routine that needs motivation.
Daily: Restore (face and/or body)
Weekly: Foot or bath soak + Restore afterwards
That’s it.
And yes — it really can be that simple.
Restore: where it fits in your spring routine
Restore is one of those blends that just makes sense in April because it’s designed to nourish, hydrate, and support the skin in a gentle, plant-based way — and it’s hand-blended in Kinsale, which I love because the product is literally made for this kind of climate.
How to use it (the “Tracy way”)
Morning (30 seconds):
Cleanse gently → a few drops of Restore → press it in (don’t rub like you’re polishing a table).
Evening (2 minutes):
Cleanse → Restore → slow presses over cheeks/forehead/jaw → down the neck.
If your skin is feeling reactive, the biggest upgrade you can make is not another step — it’s slowing the step you already do.
That’s the “ritual-led” part. Your skin responds to gentle hands.
Why the soak matters
Here’s the honest reason I recommend a weekly soak in April:
1) It softens skin without scrubbing it
When skin is feeling “off”, people often reach for exfoliation. But spring skin — especially in Irish weather — often does better with softening first.
2) It helps with that tired, heavy feeling
A foot soak isn’t just skincare. It’s body care. It’s the easiest way to bring you back down into yourself.
3) It makes Restore feel even better afterwards
After a soak, the skin is warm and softened. When you apply Restore after (especially onto slightly damp skin), it’s like sealing in that comfort.
This is why foot & bath soaks are such a Naturally Balanced thing — they’re made as part of a bigger wellbeing ritual, not a quick fix.
The weekly soak ritual (20 minutes, once a week)
You can do this as a foot soak or a full bath.
Naturally Balanced soaks are built around Epsom salts, essential oils and dried flowers — simple, effective, and lovely to use.
If you’re using Harmonise (example)
- Foot soak: 2–3 tbsp in warm water, soak 15–20 minutes
- Bath: a generous handful under running water, soak 20 minutes
- Pat dry → apply Restore after
That’s your “Glow + Renewal” night.
I always suggest doing it on:
- a Sunday evening
- or a bank holiday evening
- or any night you catch yourself doom-scrolling and think, I need to stop.
The April glow checklist (simple, not strict)
If your skin feels unsettled right now, do these for 7 days:
- Gentler cleansing (no squeaky clean)
- Restore daily (press, don’t rub)
- One soak this week (then Restore after)
- Pause over-exfoliating for a week
- Drink water, but also oil your skin — hydration is inside and out
Glow isn’t always about adding brightness. Sometimes it’s just removing stress.
FAQs: April “Glow + Renewal” Reset
How long will it take to feel a difference?
Most people feel a comfort shift quickly, but give it 7–14 days for the steadiness.
Do I need exfoliation for glow?
Not always. If your skin is tight or reactive, calming first usually wins.
Can I use Restore every day?
Yes — it’s made for daily use as part of a simple routine.
Why a foot soak — why not just moisturise?
Because the soak is doing two jobs: softening the skin and helping you slow down. It’s a ritual, not just a step.
